Usha Chilukuri Vance (born Usha Bala Chilukuri;[1][a] January 6, 1986) is an American lawyer.[4] She is the wife of JD Vance, Ohio's junior United States Senator[5] and Donald Trump's running mate in the 2024 United States presidential election. As Donald Trump was elected in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, Vance will assume office in the role of Second Lady of the United States in January 2025, the first Indian American to hold the position.

Usha Chilukuri Vance is an accomplished attorney with a distinguished career, known primarily for her work in both the public and private legal sectors. She was born and raised in San Diego, California, in a family of Indian immigrants, and her upbringing instilled a strong emphasis on education and service. She attended Yale University for her undergraduate studies before going on to Yale Law School, where she met her husband, J.D. Vance. They were both in the same graduating class, and their relationship grew as they shared similar values and life goals.

While at Yale, Usha was highly regarded by peers and professors for her academic rigor and insight. After law school, she went on to serve as a law clerk for Chief Justice John Roberts at the U.S. Supreme Court, one of the most prestigious clerkships available to law graduates. This role marked a high point in her legal career, placing her among a select group of attorneys with direct experience in the inner workings of the Supreme Court.

Usha’s career has also included work in corporate law, where she has advised clients on complex legal matters. Although her primary focus has often been her legal career, she has also been a supportive partner to J.D. Vance throughout his journey as an author, venture capitalist, and, more recently, as a U.S. Senator from Ohio. Despite her husband's public profile, Usha maintains a relatively low profile, focusing on her family and career. She and J.D. currently live in Cincinnati, Ohio, with their children.
